15th-ranked USD women begin road swing at UNO The 15th-ranked South Dakota women's basketball team (18-5, 3-4 NCC) will attempt to reach the .500 mark in conference play when they travel to Sapp Fieldhouse in Omaha, NE, for a return engagement with Nebraska-Omaha (4-15, 0-7 NCC).
South Dakota improved to 3-4 and a tie for fifth in the NCC with a 77-63 win over UNO last Saturday at the DakotaDome. As the second half of the NCC season begins, the Coyotes again face a tough road swing with games with St. Cloud State and Minnesota State on Feb. 13-14 following the encounter with the Mavericks.
Last weekend, senior All-American Mandy Koupal continued a dominating season with a 34-point, 19-rebound performance that keyed the win over Nebraska-Omaha. It was USD's seventh-straight win over the Mavericks.
South Dakota and Nebraska-Omaha will meet for the 52nd time with the Coyotes owning a 27-24 overall series lead. USD has won seven in a row vs. the Mavericks, including a 77-63 decision at the DakotaDome on Jan. 31.
A year ago, USD won both match-ups, taking a 67-55 decision at Sapp Fieldhouse and winning 67-47 at the DakotaDome. Head Coach Chad Lavin owns a 12-7 record vs. Nebraska-Omaha. The Coyotes have won three straight at Omaha, with their last loss, 68-50, during the 1999-00 season.
