Brunick, Merrigan receive honors Adam Brunick and Sarah Merrigan were named as the January Vermillion High School Students of the Month. They will be awarded a $100 scholarship from First National Bank in Vermillion for their leadership in the classroom and in extra-curricular activities.
Brunick received two faculty recommendations including one that stated, "Adam is the kind of student you hope your child would be like. He takes an active role in class, stating his opinions and answering question." Brunick plans to attend either Mesa State College in Grand Junction, CO or Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, CO with an intended degree in computer information systems.
His activities include being a Student Mentor, baseball, basketball and football. He was selected as a Sophomore Server, a National Honor Society member, an All-Conference football selection, and Academic All-State in football. His parents are Paul and Ann Brunick.
Merrigan also received two endorsements with one noting her journalism accomplishments. "As a member of the journalism class and editor of the yearbook, Sarah had been vital to the success of class publications. She worked effectively and efficiently, and puts in the extra time after school to fulfill her responsibilities as editor � no easy task for someone involved in so many activities and work obligations, " according to the endorsement.
Her list of activities and accomplishments include Student Council, track, National Honor Society, yearbook editor, volleyball, junior class treasurer, and VHS Royalty candidate.
She was runner-up for All-Around State Journalist, Teen Angel of the Month, and the W.O. Farber Book Award for Leadership. Her parents are Greg and Sally Merrigan, and she plans to major in elementary education with a minor in Spanish at a university in Minnesota.
