City council alters street parking policy by David Lias The Vermillion City Council decided Monday to alter a street parking policy that has proven to be frustrating to students at The University of South Dakota.
The city currently has an odd/even parking policy in place south of Clark Street to Main Street and from Dakota to Plum streets.
The council decided to adopt a recommendation made last month by the city's Policy and Procedure Committee, and make the parking policy seasonal, from November through mid-March.
Aldermen also discussed another idea generated by the committee to construct a parking lot in Prentis Park that would provide parking to the swimming pool in the summer and provide additional off-street parking to students residing in the nearby fraternity and sorority houses.
The aldermen agreed that more input would be needed particularly on size, cost and funding on the parking lot idea.
