Crop prices up from last month

Crop prices up from last month Preliminary crop prices for January were up from December with exception of spring wheat, barley, and hay, according to USDA's South Dakota Agricultural Statistics Service.

Prelinimary January livestock prices were mixed, with cattle prices down from December and hog prices up.

The preliminary January all beef cattle price, at $82.80, was down $2 from last month but up $8.20 from last year. Steers and heifers, at $90.70, were down $7.40 from December but $8.70 above January of last year. Calves, at $114, were down $1 from last month but up $15.90 from last January.

The preliminary January all hog price, at $37.70, was up $1.40 from last month and up $5 from last year. Barrows and gilts were up $1.60 from last month and up $4.50 from last year. Sows were up $2, at $29, and were up $8.40 from last January.

The all hay price for January, at $59 per ton, was down $2 from December and down $21 from last year. The alfalfa price, at $62 per ton, was down $2 from last month and down $22 from last year. The other hay price, at $45, was down $4 from last month and down $15 from January 2003.

The preliminary all wheat price for January, at $3.66, was up 4 cents from last month, but down 21 cents from last year. The winter wheat price, at $3.60, was up 9 cents from last month, but 16 cents below last January. The spring wheat price, at $3.73, was down 3 cents from last month and down 23 cents from last year.

The preliminary soybean price, at $7.77, was up 73 cents from last month and up $2.44 from January 2003. The corn price, at $2.38, was up 27 cents from the previous month and up 23 cents from a year ago. The January oat price was up 4 cents.
