Edelen named to Football Gazette Teams Jarrod Edelen, a 2003 graduate of The University of South Dakota and former punter for the Coyotes, has been named to Don Hansen's 2003 Football Gazette NCAA Division II All-Midwest Region second team defense. He was also listed as honorable mention on the 2003 All-America Team. Edelen was the only player from the Coyotes on either team.
This is the 16th year that Don Hansen's Football Gazette, has selected an NCAA Division II All-America team. The Football Gazette is a nationally recognized authority on small college football and selects all-region teams from around the country, and then a 21-member national panel selects the members of the teams.
At the end of the football season, Edelen was listed as the sixth best punter in Division II and was invited to play in the Midwest All-America Bowl football game that was held in the MetroDome in Minneapolis. The college all-stars, who came from Division II and III colleges in the Upper Midwest, played against members of the Midwest semi-professional teams including Eric Tarasewicz, a 2002 USD graduate, who started for the Coyotes two years ago as a running back and now plays for the Minesota Maulers.
He scored two touchdowns for the Stripes who won the game 24-21. Tarasewicz was the player of the game for the Stripes. Edelen kicked off twice and punted the football 10 times with a long punt of 47 yards for the all-stars.
