The Tanagers led 15-7 at the end of the first period, led 23-16 after the second period, and then led 36-22 after the third period.
The Cubs tried to keep things close from three-point range, hitting 4 of 8 from long distance.
"We played pretty well except for a few spurts in the second and third quarters," said coach Knutson.
The Vermillion freshmen now have a record of 4-5, while Alcester-Hudson fell to 4-7.
Vermillion made 10 of 19 free throw attempts. The Tanagers connected on 17 of 37 field goals, while Alcester-Hudson was 11 of 35 from the field. The Cubs sank 7 of 11 free throw attempts.
The Tanagers had several fine individual efforts in the victory.
"Every person on the team contributed tonight," coach Knutson said. "It is hard to decide on what five to have on the floor when everyone is working so hard."
