Men, women swimmers finish in fine shape

Men, women swimmers finish in fine shape The University of South Dakota men's swimming and diving team sits in second place after three days of competition at the North Central Conference Swimming and Diving Championships in Grand Forks, ND.

The men's team trails North Dakota, 839 to 604. St. Cloud State is third with 302 points with Minnesota State, fourth, 188 points, and South Dakota State is fifth with 180 points.

The USD women's team is fourth with 360 points. North Dakota leads the women's competition with 734 points with Nebraska-Omaha, second, with 542 points. St. Cloud State has 388 points for third. Minnesota State is fifth with 235 points and SDSU is sixth with 138 points.

Overall, South Dakota had 10 national B cuts on Friday.

Women's breakdown

200 Free Relay: South Dakota, fourth, 1:38.31. The squad included Kari Kopecky (Roosevelt, MN), Audrey Donley (Arvada, CO), Abby Heinz (Sgt. Bluff, IA), and Karen Burke (Carson City, NV).

100 Fly: Heinz, fourth, 58.98 (B cut). The time is the second fastest in school history.

200 Free: Brianna Wass (Douglas, WY), 10th, 1:58.78; Burke, 12th, 1:59.83

100 Breast: Jill Stensby (Portland, OR), third, 1:07.23 (B cut); Burke, 15th, 1:13.08. Stensby's time was the second fastest ever in school history.
