Poor first half play sinks Tanagers 36-9 by Jim Prosser The Vermillion girls' junior varsity Tanagers were shot down by the Beresford Watchdogs 36-9 in basketball Feb. 3 at Vermillion after being buried by a disasterous first half.

"We seemed to be out of 'sync' and couldn't respond to the press very well," said Vermillion JV coach Lenni Billberg. "Our freshmen JV contingent played well together."

The Tanagers trailed 11-3 at the end of the first period, trailed 22-3 after the second quarter, and then trailed 26-7 going into the fourth quarter.

The loss dropped the Vermillion JV to a record of 4-5, while Beresford improved to 7-2.

Vermillion hit 2 of 4 free throw attempts while the Watchdogs made 4 of 8 free throw attempts.
