Boots scored 13 points in Monday's game at Vermillion. by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers downed the Alcester-Hudson Cubs 60-47 in boys' basketball Feb. 16 at home in a win keyed by a 26-10 second-quarter edge.
"We showed that we are a good basketball team at times," said Vermillion varsity coach Jason Huska. "We need to stay consistent with that throughout four quarters of a game. We did a good job playing team defense. We got some really good looks offensively."
The Tanagers committed only 7 turnovers in the victory.
The Tanagers jumped in front 7-6 after the opening period, led 33-16 at halftime, and then held a lead of 44-30 going into the final period.
The Vermillion varsity improved its record to 12-6, while Alcester-Hudson dropped to 2-14.
Vermillion made 4 of 12 three-pointers and sank 10 of 22 free throw tries. The Tanagers sank 23 of 56 field goals, while Alcester-Hudson was 18 of 45 from the field. Alcester-Hudson made 3 of 8 three-pointers and connected on 8 of 14 free throw tries.
The Tanagers had several fine individual efforts in the victory.
"Collin Prosser had 14 rebounds and played a huge part for us," coach Huska said. "Chad Teigen hit some free throws down the stretch to put it away for us."
