SESDAC, Inc. is busy preparing for its 13th Annual Benefit Auction on March 20 at the Buffalo Run Winery. SESDAC, Inc. supports 78 people with disabilities in the Vermillion area.
"Aramark is one of several businesses that employ people with disabilities in Vermillion," said Rennae O'Connor of SESDAC, Inc., as she described the long-standing support of the Vermillion business community to help SESDAC meet its mission.
"Aramark provides more than extra income. They help people to learn responsibility, team work and other important skills that lead to more independent productive lives for people," O'Connor said.
Bob Lamb of Aramark described some key attributes for two of the employees at Aramark.
"Both Paul Stone and Tiffany Glenn have become integral parts of our daily food business here at the University of South Dakota's food service," he said. "They are both detail-oriented and hard working.
"Paul has been with the Food Service here for going on five years," Lamb said. "In that time, he has shown great growth and is now our dish room supervisor. Tiffany has only been with us for less than a year. But, in that year, she has developed into a very good employee."
On any working day SESDAC, Inc. staff members might provide a wake-up call, help prepare a nutritious breakfast, help with final adjustments on clothing and ensure people arrive for work on time.
This partnership among the people they serve, employers and staff is what makes SESDAC work well for so many people.
SESDAC's mission is to assist people with disabilities to live, work and socialize in their community. The Vermillion community has been a willing partner in this endeavor for 26 years.
On March 20, the community will have another opportunity to show its support for SESDAC, Inc. The Annual Benefit Auction, SESDAC's only fund raiser, will be held at the Buffalo Run Winery.
This event, including a dinner, silent auction and live auction, begins at 5:30 p.m. More than 250 items have been donated by Vermillion businesses and individuals. Items range in value from $10 to $1,500.
