Tanagers pull away over Beresford by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers pulled away in the second half to beat the Beresford Watchdogs 46-36 in boys' basketball Feb. 3 at home.

The Vermillion JV had led by only two in the third period.

"Great offensive effort," said Vermillion JV coach Jon Ruevers. "When we can hold a team in the 30s, we will be successful. All around, I'm pleased, but we need to cut down on turnovers."

The Tanagers jumped ahead 12-0 at the end of the first period, led 18-16 at halftime, and then led 31-26 going into the final period.

Vermillion improved its season mark to 7-3, while Beresford fell to 5-5.

Vermillion made 2 of 4 three-pointers and made 4 of 7 free throw tries. The Tanagers connected on 20 of 42 from the field, while Beresford was 13 of 35 from the field. Beresford connected on 3 of 7 three-point tries and connected on 7 of 11 free throw attempts.
