Vermillion battles to victory by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers battled to a tough up-and-down win over the Beresford Watchdogs 51-46 in boys' basketball Feb. 3 at home.

Vermillion had trailed by four at halftime.

"We came out the second half and accomplished the game plan," said Vermillion varsity coach Jason Huska. "We moved better offensively, we rebounded better and we forced them to shoot from the outside. Beresford is a good, well-coached team. We know we can play with good teams. Good win."

Vermillion varsity held onto the win from the free throw line, making 14 of 22 charity tosses to 4 of 7 for Beresford.

The score was 12-all after the first quarter, the Tanagers trailed 30-26 at halftime, and the score was knotted 39-39 after the third quarter.

Vermillion improved its season mark to 10-5, while Beresford fell to 10-3.

Vermillion sank 3 of 10 three-pointers. The Tanagers connected on 17 of 42 field goal attempts, while Beresford was 20 of 46 from the field. Beresford sank 2 of 12 three-pointers.
