Olson scored 7 points during a night in which the Tanagers couldn't keep pace with the Trojans. by Jim Prosser The Vermillion varsity Tanagers were defeated by the West Central Trojans 70-39 in girls' basketball Feb. 12 at Vermillion as the winners pulled steadily away in the contest.
"West Central is a very good team," said Vermillion coach Jamie Parish. "They killed us on the offensive boards which dug us a hole that we never recovered from."
The loss was aided by the Tanagers committing 22 turnovers.
The Tanagers fell behind 21-9 after the opening period, trailed 37-16 after the second quarter, and then trailed 57-25 going into the final period.
The loss dropped Vermillion to a record of 7-10, while West Central improved to 13-4.
Vermillion connected on 3 of 13 three-point attempts and connected on 12 of 16 from the line. The Tanagers made 12 of 42 from the field, while West Central was 27 of 57 from the field. West Central made 3 of 11 three-point tries and hit 13 of 16 free throw attempts.
Vermillion was outrebounded 35-19.
