Vermillion defeats Arlington

Vermillion defeats Arlington by Jim Prosser The Vermillion girls' junior varsity Tanagers pulled away in the second half to top the Arlington Cardinals 29-17 in basketball Jan. 31 at Arlington.

Vermillion had led by only four in the third period.

"After a long weather-related trip it was nice to have the entire squad to participate in an 'away' victory," said Vermillion JV coach Lenni Billberg.

The Tanagers took the lead 6-4 after the first quarter, and margins of 8-6 and 7-5 in the second and third quarters boosted the lead to 21-15 going into the final period.

Vermillion improved its record to 4-4, while Arlington dropped to 4-10.

Vermillion sank 1 of 3 three-point attempts and connected on 6 of 10 free throw tries. The Tanagers connected on 11 of 32 field goals, while Arlington was 7 of 25 from the field. Arlington connected on 0 of 2 three-point tries and sank 3 of 10 free throw attempts.

Vermillion held a 28-13 edge on the boards.
