Vermillion JV tops Dakota Valley 38-26 by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers topped the Dakota Valley Panthers 38-26 in boys' basketball Feb. 10 at Dakota Valley as the winners led after each quarter.

"It was a good, solid victory on the road," said Vermillion JV coach Jon Ruevers. "We had a solid performance by all 11 guys. Defense, again, was our best aspect of our game."

The Tanagers took the lead 13-5 after the first quarter, and margins of 7-3 and 10-8 in the second and third quarters boosted the lead to 30-16 going into the final period.

The Vermillion JV improved its season mark to 10-4, while Dakota Valley fell to 5-9.

Vermillion made 3 of 6 three-pointers and sank 7 of 13 free throw tries. The Tanagers connected on 14 of 34 field goal attempts, while Dakota Valley was 10 of 30 from the field. Dakota Valley connected on 2 of 6 three-point tries and connected on 2 of 5 from the line.
