Vermillion JV wins 51-42 over Trojans by Jim Prosser In a back-and-forth contest, the Vermillion Tanagers finally shook off a stiff challenge and battled to a tough win over the West Central Trojans 51-42 in boys' basketball Jan. 27 at Hartford.

The score was even at 25-25 at halftime.

Randy Kabambi scored 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

The Tanagers fell behind 16-13 at the end of the first period, the score was 25-25 at halftime, and the Tanagers trailed 38-36 going into the final period.

The Vermillion JV held onto the win from the free throw line, making 19 of 35 charity tosses to 3 of 11 for WCHS. The contest was well-played, with each team committing only 8 turnovers.

"We played a great game on defense," said Vermillion JV coach Jon Ruevers. "I was very pleased about our defensive intensity return."

Vermillion improved its season mark to 7-1, while WCHS fell to 2-5.

The Vermillion JV sank 2 of 4 three-point attempts. The Tanagers sank 15 of 38 from the field, while WCHS was 18 of 39 from the field. WCHS made 1 of 3 three-point tries.
