Vermillion varsity clips Cardinals' wings 55-48 by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers defeated the Arlington Cardinals 55-48 in boys' basketball Jan. 31 at Arlington.
"Arlington is a very good, young team," said Vermillion varsity coach Jason Huska. "They shoot the ball very well. We did a good job of taking care of the ball down the stretch and hitting our free throws. This was a great road win. I'm proud of our players' tenacious effort."
The Tanagers fell behind 16-15 at the end of the first period, led 26-22 after the second quarter, and then held a lead of 41-31 after the third quarter.
Vermillion improved its record to 9-5, while Arlington dropped to 9-4.
Vermillion connected on 15 of 18 from the line. The Tanagers hit 19 of 45 field goal attempts, while Arlington was 16 of 49 from the field.
Arlington made 7 of 25 three-point attempts and connected on 9 of 12 free throw tries.
