Wagner defeats Tanager freshmen by Jim Prosser The Vermillion freshmen Tanagers were downed by Wagner 25-18 in girls' basketball Jan. 27 at Wagner as the winners held the lead after each quarter.
"The team played with a lot of heart, considering the previous day off due to weather," said VHS freshmen coach Heather Walker. "Also, Anna Isaacson got hurt so the girls were forced to play different positions than usual."
The contest was well-played, with the Tanagers committing only 3 turnovers.
WHS jumped in front 6-3 after the first quarter, and held an edge of 10-5 in the second quarter. The VHS freshmen had an advantage of 4-3 in the third period to shave the deficit to only 19-12 going into the final period.
The VHS freshmen are still looking for the first win of the season, now standing at 0-3, while WHS is now 3-0.
VHS sank 6 of 12 free throw attempts while Wagner sank 7 of 14 from the line.
