323 Chemical Company returns After having served nearly 14 months of active duty in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, approximately 120 soldiers of the U.S. Army Reserve 323 Chemical Company arrived at Ft. McCoy, WI on March 24.
The unit, which is based in Sioux Falls with a detachment in Vermillion, was activated on Feb. 6, 2003. After spending a short time at Ft. McCoy, the 323rd flew overseas to Kuwait on March 23, just a little more than a week after President George W. Bush waged war on Iraq.
The unit served at a wash point in southern Kuwait until September 2003. In October, the unit began a security mission near Talil Air Base in southern Iraq.
The soldiers will spend approximately five days at Ft. McCoy demobilizing. Then they are scheduled to spend 3 to 4 days at home station in Sioux Falls.
Several welcoming activities are planned. More details will be provided as they are available.
