Apply through SDSU for agriculture grants Area producers can get applications through South Dakota State University for a sustainable agriculture grants program.
The deadline to apply is March 24.
Kim Cassel, agriculture and natural resources program leader for SDSU Extension, said area farmers and ranchers can get applications by telephoning her office at (605) 688-4147. More about the grants program is available online from the North Central Region SARE Web site, http://www.sare.org/ncrsare/.
The grants are through the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) program in the North Central Region. The program awards money to producers to research, demonstrate or educate others about profitable and environmentally healthy ag systems that support local communities and rural areas.
Hundreds of grants have been awarded in past years in the region.
Those include projects to reduce off-farm inputs, improve water quality, educate young people or consumers about agriculture, manage weeds and pests, recycle wastes, and create markets for sustainable products.
