Callahan is city candidate

Callahan is city candidate Jon Callahan of Vermillion announced Monday he plans to run for the city council seat in the Northeast Ward currently held by Gary Wright.

Callahan stated in a press release that, if elected, he will support and encourage growth in Vermillion, not be an obstacle to it.

"If Vermillion is going to maintain its current quality of life in our school systems, medical care and shopping we need to grow. We have seen decreases in all these areas in past years due to lack of growth in population and in job development," he said.

Callahan has been employed by SESDAC Inc. for five years, where he is currently the human resources director.

Callahan was selected to participate in Leadership Vermillion in 2001. He successfully completed the training and graduated in 2002.

He has volunteered for civic organizations such as the Vermillion Jaycees and Vermillion Special Olympics. Callahan is also a member of Grace Baptist Church.

Callahan has been a resident of Vermillion for most of his life and graduated from VHS. He and his wife Angie have four children, Joshua, 9, Andrew, 7 Rachel, 4 and Stephen, 1.
