Coyote men earn spot in North Central Regional The South Dakota men's basketball team (21-9) will face a familiar foe in next week's first round game of the NCAA Division II North Central Regional, taking on Nebraska-Omaha next Saturday in Denver, CO.
USD was awarded the No. 6 seed in the North Central Region Sunday night, while UNO was tabbed the No. 3 seed.
Nebraska-Omaha took two of three games this season from the Coyotes, grabbing a 74-67 decision at the DakotaDome on Jan. 31 and an 82-70 March 6 in the Wells Fargo Finals in Omaha.
USD notched an 86-84 win on Feb. 7 at Sapp Fieldhouse in Omaha.
The berth in the NCAA Division II playoffs is the sixth under Head Coach Dave Boots and first since the 1999-2000 season.
Metro State will host the tournament and take on Mesa State in the 1 vs. 8 game. South Dakota State is the No. 4 seed and will take on fifth-seeded Northern State. Nebraska-Kearney, which won the North Central Regional a year ago, is the No. 2 seed and will play No. 7 seed Bemidji State.
The South Dakota men's game against Nebraska-Omaha will begin at 1 p.m. at the Auraria Events Center in Denver, CO.
