Dakota winds will perform March 14 Sioux Falls' diverse music scene welcomes a new ensemble to the area. After months of planning and weeks of rehearsal, the Dakota Wind Ensemble will play its premier concert at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 14 at Jeschke Auditorium on the campus of the University of Sioux Falls.
The instrumentation of the 45-piece group is similar to a concert band with one player per part, resulting in a more symphonic sound. Dr. Bruce T. Ammann from Augustana College will conduct works by Copland, Sousa, and Tchaikovsky, showcasing the broad range of musical styles attributed to the modern wind ensemble.
"The group sounds better than we ever imagined and we can't wait to take the stage," said Dakota Wind Ensemble Spokesman, Jim Spiers. "This group brings a whole new dimension to the Sioux Falls music scene."
