Journalism City delegates announced Cheryl Hovorka, director of the South Dakota American Legion Auxiliary Girls State program, has announced the selection of 18 delegates to participate in Journalism City during the 2004 Girls State session. The session will be held May 31-June 5 on the campus of The University of South Dakota in Vermillion. The event will be organized by the W. O. Farber Center for Civic Leadership at USD.
Local delegates are Lindsey Davies, a student at Vermillion High School, and Allyson Eckert, a student at Wakonda High School.
Daily, delegates to Journalism City will publish a newspaper, announce news on a local radio station, and post updates to the Web page (www.usd.edu/girlstate) while working as active news reporters during the week.
The journalists will use facilities in the Al Neuharth Media Center at USD with Jack Marsh, director of the media center, serving as mentor.
Girls State is a week of intensive training in leadership, citizenship and government.
