Mt. Marty celebrates Benedictine heritage Mount Marty College will once again celebrate its Benedictine heritage during the week of March 21-26.
The Benedictine Awareness Week kicks off on Sunday, March 21, with evening prayer and final oblation of Sacred Heart Monastery Oblates. Monday's activities include a presentation at noon by Fr. Denis Quinkert and Brothers Michael and Dennis from Blue Cloud Abbey in Marvin, offering a glimpse into the lives of monks.
Feasting with the Founder will take place at noon on Tuesday, and Sacred Heart Monastery will offer tours of their facilities at 3 p.m. Interested individuals should meet in the lobby of the monastery. Parties interested in scheduling a group tour can call the monastery at 668-6000 to make arrangements.
This week's noon forum is hosted by Brock Rops, a 1998 MMC graduate. Rops will present "Cape Town, South Africa: Spreading the Gospel on College Campuses" in the South Dining Room at noon on Thursday.
Sister Sharon Ann Haas, OSB, is the chair of the Mission Effectiveness Committee at Mount Marty College and is part of planning Benedictine Awareness Week.
"The Mission Effectiveness Committee promotes the celebration in remembrance of our Benedictine heritage," Haas said. "Benedictine Awareness Week is one of the special events we celebrate during the academic year. It helps us to be mindful of our roots and values and the importance of those values to Mount Marty College."
Everyone is invited to attend all of the Benedictine Awareness Week activities on the Mount Marty College campus and Sacred Heart Monastery. For a complete schedule of activities, please visit www.mtmc.edu/benedictine/.
