Register by March 10 for caregivers conference March 10 is the deadline to register for the South Dakota AgrAbility Project's Sixth Annual Caregivers Conference, set for April 2-3 at the Holiday Inn Convention Center in Spearfish.
This year's conference theme is "Caring for the Caregiver." Need-based scholarships may be available. Sessions on Friday, April 2, deal with topics such as simplifying Social Security, therapeutic riding, support for caregivers through the Division of Developmental Disabilities, and physical activities and wellness. The day also includes a panel discussion about various caregiver roles.
Friday concludes with a time for networking, then a dinner. Keynote speaker Pat Samples from Minneapolis talks about supporting positive personal transformation for older adults, family caregivers, and others wanting to generate more vibrancy, creativity, and peace of mind in their lives.
Sessions on Saturday, April 3 include a discussion with Samples. Other topics for the day include communicating with health care professionals, nutritious food choices, and new outreach programs for those who care for the elderly.
Saturday closes with a caregiver appreciation lunch with music and inspiration from area artist Lisa Albers. Following the conference caregivers will have the option to enjoy the Black Hills region on their own.
The South Dakota AgrAbility Project is a collaborative effort between Avera Health, Easter Seals South Dakota, and South Dakota Cooperative Extension Service.
A statewide planning committee assists with the conference with representation from Family Caregivers, Adult Services & Aging, Children's Care Hospital and School, Area Family Support Services, South Dakota Parent Connection, Prairie Freedom Center, AARP, and South Dakota Council on Developmental Disabilities.
