South Dakota extends win streak to 6 The South Dakota baseball team extended its win streak to six by completing a four-game sweep of Bemidji State Sunday, March 21, at the LaVista Sports Complex in Omaha, NE. USD squeezed out a 1-0 win in the opener, before recording a 6-5 win in the fourth and final game of the series.
On Saturday, the Coyotes posted wins of 4-3 and 12-1. South Dakota is now 12-8 on the season.
Senior Bryan Hohenthaner's (Sioux Falls) RBI double in the second inning lifted the Coyotes in Sunday's opener, scoring junior Drake Carlson (Elkhorn, NE) for the lone run of the game.
Freshman Josh Lundin (Rapid City) pitched five innings, giving up just six hits while striking out seven to notch the victory (2-1). Junior Brian Kungl (Anaheim, CA) recorded his third save of the season by pitching the final two innings of game one, giving up just one hit.
In game two, junior John Quade (Sioux City, IA) smashed a two-RBI single in the fourth that proved to be the game winner. Hohenthaner also had a solid showing in the second game, going 2-for-3 with an RBI, run scored and a double.
Redshirt freshman Dustin Townsend (Council Bluffs, IA) went 3-for-4 with a run scored and three singles.
Senior Justin Berg (New Richmond, MN) picked up the victory (2-0), hurling 1.2 innings of relief work, while Kungl notched his fourth save of the year by closing out the game with three scoreless innings.
