USD softball drops 7-1 decision to Truman State The South Dakota softball team (10-15) dropped its fifth straight game in a 7-1 setback to Truman State at the Missouri Western Softball Classic that concluded on Sunday.
The Coyotes dropped a 4-1 decision to Missouri Western and 8-0 loss to Central Missouri State on Saturday. Then on Sunday, USD fell to Emporia
State, 7-6; Missouri Western, 10-1; and Truman State, 7-1.
Against Truman State, the Coyotes scored its only run in the fifth inning. In that stanza, senior Mollie Witherbee (Omaha, NE) doubled and advanced
to third on a single by Nicole Jones (Rapid City). Witherbee scored on a passed ball.
TSU scored four times in the third inning and added a single run in the fourth inning and two more in the sixth inning. The Coyotes had one run on four hits with three errors. TSU had seven runs on 11 hits and no errors.
Junior pitcher Angela Palma (Omaha, NE) took the loss to fall to 6-8 on the season. She allowed seven runs (six earned) on 11 hits with four strikeouts and two walks. Wonderly was the winning pitcher for TSU. She allowed just four hits and an earned run over seven innings. She had five strikeouts and two walks.
