USD softball drops two games March 9 South Dakota softball team fell to 4-6 after dropping a pair of games on March 9 at the Rebel Games being held in Orlando, FL. USD lost to Northern Kentucky, 3-1 in eight innings, and to Bloomsburg, 1-0.
In the first game at Northern Kentucky (13-0), Angela Palma allowed one earned run and five hits over eight innings while recording six strikeouts and walking one hitter. Palma, a native of Omaha, NE, extended her streak of scoreless innings to 16 before Northern Kentucky scored a run in the fifth inning for a 1-0 lead.
The Coyotes answered in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game. After a scoreless seventh, Northern Kentucky scored two in the eighth (international tie-breaking rule put into place).
� Emily Breithole picked up the win for UNK, allowing one run on five hits with four walks and two strikeouts. Krystal Lewellan came on for UNK in the seventh and shut down USD without a hit or run.
In the second game on Tuesday, USD was again involved in a pitching duel. Despite allowed just one run on four hits in six innings, freshman Shannon Anderson dropped to 1-3 on the season as USD fell to Bloomsburg, 1-0.
She had 12 strikeouts which gives her 27 in her last two outings. Bloomsburg's Amber
Cowher allowed just one hit, a single by USD's Alisha Yowell, and no runs while striking out nine Coyote hitters. Bloomsburg (5-1) scored the game's only run in the fifth.
