USD to face NDSU in regional playoffs The No. 15 South Dakota women's basketball team (25-7) has earned an NCAA Division II North Central Region Playoff berth for the second straight season. And, the Coyotes will match up with a familiar foe, No. 12 North Dakota State on Friday, March 12 in Minneapolis.
USD was seeded sixth and NDSU was seeded third in the regional that will be held from March 12-15. �
� The No. 1 seed and regional host, Concordia St. Paul (27-3) will face Minnesota-Duluth (20-10), the winner of the Northern Sun Tournament. UMD defeated Concordia St. Paul, 58-57 on Sunday. The No. 2 seed North Dakota (25-5), which won the North Central Conference tournament, will face No. 7 seeded Fort Lewis (23-7).
The other North Central Region matchup pits fourth seeded South Dakota State (23-6) and fifth-seeded Nebraska-Kearney (25-5), the winner of the Rocky Mountain Conference tournament.
South Dakota and North Dakota State have met three times this season with the games determined by a total of 11 points. USD won both the regular season encounters, stopping the Bison, 71-69 in Fargo, ND, on Jan. 17 and winning 71-68 on Feb. 20.
NDSU defeated USD, 74-68, in the finals of the Wells Fargo Semifinals. A year ago, USD advanced to the North Central Regional Finals before losing the title game.
The Coyotes and Bison will open the regional with a 1 p.m. encounter at the Gangelhoff Center in St. Paul, MN.
