Vermillion JV team ends season with win by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers downed the Canton C-Hawks 52-44 in boys' basketball Feb. 27 at Canton as the winners led after each quarter.

This game marked the end of the Tanager junior varsity's season. Vermillion JV improved its season mark to 11-3, while Canton fell to 7-7.

"It was a great effort in our final game of 2004," said Vermillion JV coach Jon Ruevers. "Thanks to all my players for one outstanding year � a big building block towards Tanager basketball's future."

The contest was well-played, with the Tanagers committing only 4 turnovers and the C-Hawks committing only 9.

The Tanagers jumped in front 19-11 after the first quarter, led 28-24 after the second period, and then led 42-35 going into the final period.

Vermillion made 0 of 2 three-point tries and sank 6 of 11 from the line. The Tanagers connected on 23 of 48 field goal attempts, while Canton was 17 of 42 from the field. Canton connected on 1 of 4 three-point tries and sank 9 of 14 free throw tries.
