Baptist women plan bridal fair It has been approximately six months since Pastor Sandy Aakre left for active duty in Iraq. The pastor has been one of the major caretakers of the First Baptist Church in Vermillion for a long time.
Part of his dream is to make the church as comfortable and accessible as possible. Since he has been gone some major things have happened at the church which includes the addition of storm windows and the restoration of Sunday school chairs. The women of the First Baptist Church are also working to fulfill some of Aakre's wish list.
The American Baptist Women's group is hosting a bridal fair Saturday, May 1. from noon until 4 p.m. as a fund raiser to help with the projects that are planned in the church. During the bridal fair there will be a vintage style show at 1 p.m., in which bridal gowns from the early 1900's as well as the newer gowns and untraditional gowns will be showcased.
Local merchants and service providers will have booths in the basement of the church. The booths will display goods and services for brides-to-be to help plan their weddings. Everything from printers to wedding cakes and caterers, to musicians and florists, even a few live doves, will be available to view. The cost of admission for the public is $2.
