Clubs Rotarians get jazzed at luncheon
The Vermillion Rotary Club with Dan Van Peursem presiding met for our weekly lunch Tuesday at the Neuharth Center. Our guests today from Vermillion High School were Kendra Gottsleben, Cassie McBride and Nichole Nelson. Other guests were Karen Muenster, Kyle Repp, and Britt Fremstad. Chuck Yelverton held the first of only two bike helmet auctions and held up one of our members for a full $30. (This is the auction where you bid on a bike helmet that you, then, immediately donate for some second-grader who really could use one.) May 7 at Austin School is the day when volunteers will pass out the helmets and fit them, with just acquired expertise, to those little heads. Sue Ann Stutheit brought us our program today in the form of 14 jazzy singing students from USD. In a wide variety of tunes run through a cappella style we delighted to the blending and bumping of the voices of Heather Reeves, Erik Meek, Jeff Peters, Kim Weiser, Deirdre Whitman, Amber Nepodal, Nick Baumgart, Matt Gustafson, Patrick Roberts, Kelly Van Beek, Eric Tomkins, and Kali Pistulka Hardina. It was a bitter sweet experience. The Jazz Singers are not funded next year because of budget cuts. We can hope that the music goes on somehow anyway, but without more tax money that's unlikely.
