Koupal sees action in all star game April 3 Mandy Koupal, the State Farm/Women's Basketball Coaches Association NCAA Division II Player of the Year in 2004, saw action in the WBCA/USA Senior National Team All Star Game on April 3 before 3,213 gathered at the Fogelman Arena on the campus of Tulane University, New Orleans, LA.
Koupal, who played nine minutes, scored two points (2-2 free throws) and grabbed two rebounds for the WBCA All-Stars, which dropped a 105-58 decision to the USA Senior National Team.
Other members of the WBCA team included Nicole Ohlde, Kansas State; Nicole Powell, Stanford; Stacy Stephens, Texas; Shereka Wright, Purdue; and Kelly Mazzante, Penn State, among others. Shameka Christon led the WBCA team with 12 points and Powell had six rebounds.
The WBCA team trailed 24-17 after the first quarter, 57-32, at halftime; and 77-49 after three quarters.
The USA team, now 10-0, was led by Lisa Leslie with 23 points and eight rebounds. Swin Cash added 15 points and 10 rebounds while Natalie Williams and Tamika Catchings both scored 14 points. Tina Thompson had 13 points.
The USA Team hit 56.3 percent from the field on 45-of-80 shooting while the All Stars made just 24.3 percent on 18-of-74 shooting. The WBCA squad was 3-of-24 from three-point range for 12.5 percent while the USA National Team was 3-of-14 for 21.4 percent from beyond the arc.
