Local sixth-graders end a great hoop season The Edward Jones sixth grade boys' basketball team coached by Curt Robinson and Kent Andre ended its 2003-04 season with a record of 13 wins and 10 losses.
The team garnered first place victories at the Centerville and Roger Haas tournaments. They came in second in Rock Valley, IA and Alcester. They had a third place finish at the DakotaDome tournament, and fifth place in Sioux Falls.
The team scored an impressive 846 points this season. Cole Andre was the top scorer with 246 points this season, Garrett Smith Keller scored 220 points, Aaron Steele put in 132 points, Jordan Robinson added 120 points, Nick Anglin contributed 68 points, Michael Walker scored 48 and Tim Tigert had 12 points.
The team was tough on the boards as they averaged 27.8 rebound per game. Smith Keller led the team in rebounds with 175 boards this season, Walker brought down 110, Anglin snatched 97, Steele grabbed 74, Robinson added 60
boards, Andre had 59 rebounds and Tigert contributed 29.
The team showed its quickness by stealing the ball from opponents 173 times this season. Andre led the team in steals with 55, Steele snatched 34, Robinson had 29 take-aways, Smith Keller took 25, Walker had 14 steals, Anglin and Tigert each contributed eight steals.
Not all players were able to participate in all the games. After a season ending injury for Tigert, the team played on with only six players in the last two tournaments. A special thanks to the coaches for their dedication to the game, to the parents and fans for their support, and to all the volunteers who make the games possible.
