Matthews will join USD men's basketball South Dakota head men's basketball coach Dave Boots announced Monday that Jordan Matthews has signed a national letter of intent to join the USD men's basketball program for the 2004-05 season.
Matthews averaged 20.7 points per game last season at Dawson Community College in Glendive, MT. A native of Ankeny, IA, he helped lead Dawson to a 24-6 record and to the Region 9 Championship game last season.
A first-team All-Mon-Dak Conference selection, Matthews will have two seasons of eligibility at USD and is projected as a shooting guard. Matthews, who stands 6-4, ranked second in the Mon-Dak Conference in scoring last season, in addition to averaging 3.8 assists and 1.4 steals per game.
He scored 30 points or more four times in 2003-04, including a high-game of 37 points against Sheridan College.
Matthews is USD's seventh recruit for the 2004-05 season, joining other spring signings Jesse Becker (Osseo, MN), Aaron Green (Indianapolis), Eric Hall (Huron) and David Nour (Armour), and fall signings Colby Fitzgerald (Dell Rapids) and Dustin Little (Castlewood).
