Obituaries Herbert Christopherson

Herbert Donald Christopherson, 93, of Vermillion, died Monday, April 19, 2004 at the Sioux Valley Vermillion Care Center.

His funeral was held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 22, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Vermillion, with the Rev. Ed Anderson officiating. Burial was in the BluffView Cemetery.

Visitation was from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Iverson-Siecke Funeral Home.

Mr. Christopherson was born Aug. 9, 1910 on a farm two miles north of Vermillion to Hans G. and Grace (McDonald) Christopherson.

He was the first infant baptized in Trinity Lutheran Church located at the corner of Main and Harvard streets. He was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Mr. Christopherson graduated from Vermillion High School and attended The University of South Dakota for one year.

He became a farmer, and at retirement, he became custodian at Trinity Lutheran Church. He also loved the art of cooking.

Mr. Christopherson married Leone Lawrensen Eklund on Aug. 30, 1958 in Vermillion. They were married for 44 years, living on the farm, and in their home in Vermillion for the past 32 years until they moved into Dakota Gardens Senior Living one year ago.

Mr. Christopherson was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Vermillion. He continued as a member for 50 years and held many offices.

He was the first bi-state president of the South Dakota and North Dakota Eagles, and was an active member of Lions.

Mr. Christopherson is survived by his wife, Leone, Vermillion; a sister, Myrtle Hickman, Vermillion; a nephew, George Hendricks, Vermillion; three nieces, Jan (Dick) Slattery, Alaska, Trudy (Larry) Anthofer, Vermillion, and Donna (Don) Seiler, Sioux Falls; and a special niece, Camille (Dennis Tech), Council Bluffs, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Helen Hendricks.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice, the Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund and the Vermillion Senior Citizens Center.
