What can you do to help Operation Pride and celebrate Earth Day on April 24?
The Operation Pride Committee is asking all residents in Vermillion to "Take Pride In Vermillion." Individuals, families, community organizations, church groups, and students are asked to spend two or three hours Saturday April 24 and "Pick it Up, Paint it Up, Perk it Up."
Spend a little time picking up litter in a public area, raking a yard for someone that may need help, or assisting an organization to spruce up their grounds. If you need spruce up area suggestions, call 677-7076. Register your spruce up project with the Vermillion Solid Waste Department, 677-7076 and you will receive a special Operation Pride Landfill Voucher for collected trash disposal on April 24.
Remember to recycle the recycling facility pays cash for aluminum cans. Have your organization spruce up Vermillion by collecting aluminum cans and make money at the same time.
All residents of Vermillion and Clay County may take advantage of the Landfill Voucher published last month in the Broadcaster and city newsletter. Vouchers may also be picked up at city hall, the auditor's office in the Clay County Courthouse, the landfill and the recycling facility.
The voucher is valid up to $15 on materials delivered to the Vermillion landfill and good throughout the year.
From April through October, the landfill is open Saturday mornings 8 a.m. to noon. Recycling is open Saturday mornings, 9 a.m. to noon, year round.
