S.D. Coalition for Children seeks teen council members The South Dakota Coalition for Children is seeking applications statewide for its 2004 Youth Advisory Council. The Council comprises teen volunteers who represent the diversity of the state urban, rural and reservation communities and public, private and home schooling.
Council members offer insight about young people's viewpoints, assist in developing the Coalition's policy agenda and advocate on behalf of children including testifying before the Legislature and participating in news conferences.
"This group educates and inspires others to take action to improve the lives of South Dakota children," said Dr. Susan Randall, the Coalition's executive director.
Members of the youth council attend a two-day summer retreat in Pierre and come together for three additional quarterly meetings. Travel stipends are provided by the Coalition. Terms extend through the senior year in high school.
Application forms are available at the Coalition's Web site www.sdcchildren.org or by calling 605 367-9667.
The mission of the South Dakota Coalition for Children is to shape policies and programs to ensure the well-being of all children in South Dakota.
