USD Chamber Singers will perform in Beresford The University of South Dakota Chamber Singers will be giving a free concert on Sunday, April 18, 7 p.m. at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Beresford. The Chamber Singers is a highly select chamber ensemble comprised of undergraduate and graduate music majors and other select members of the university community.
The ensemble presents formal concerts on campus each semester and tours within the state and region. In June of 2003, they joined with three other choirs to perform in Carnegie Hall and while in New York gave a solo concert at Christ Church.
Plans for the choir are tours to the Twin Cities in Minnesota and Germany, Denmark, and Norway in 2005.
The concert will feature several selections of traditional Scandinavian choral music by the likes of Olsson, Stenhammar, Rautavaara, Kverno, and hln as well as an exciting variety from the works of Pinkam, Wilberg, Dasamours, Gene, Goldman, and USD's own Dr. Stephen Yarbrough. There will be something for everyone to enjoy!
Dr. Matthew Harden, assistant professor of music and director of choral activities at the University of South Dakota, directs the choir. Dr. Harden earned his doctoral degree in Interdisciplinary studies (Choral Conducting/Choral Music Education/Education) from the Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
