USD has solid performance at Kansas The South Dakota men's and women's track and field team had several national provisional qualifying marks during another outstanding performance at the Kansas Relays on Saturday, April 17.
USD had five student-athletes with top seven finishes or better. Among those performances were four different provisional qualifying marks for outdoor nationals.
Derek Gearman, a freshman from Lennox, had a personal best andfinished fifth with a jump of 49'04''.25 in the triple jump. The mark was a provisional mark for the NCAA Division II nationals later this spring. He also finished 10th in the high jump, going 6'06''.75.
Shane Roder, a junior from Linn Grove, IA, was sixth in the 800-meter run, going 1:52.59, which was a provisional qualifying mark for nationals.
On the women's side, sophomore Kassy Laber of Parkston was sixth in the 800-meter run in 2:14.64.
Junior Diana Scott (Norfolk, NE) was sixth in the 100 meter hurdles with a clocking of 14.31. Senior Sarah Hoffman (Mitchell) was seventh in the 100 meter hurdles, going 14.62. Both times were national provisional qualifying marks for the national meet.
The women's 4×400-meter relay was sixth in 3:57.37. The team included Hoffman, Heidi Muellenberg (Redfield), Laber and Emily Fox (Sioux Falls).
In addition, senior Brianne Edwards was 11th in the triple jump, with a jump of 38'02''.
