Vermillion baseball suffers loss to Trojans by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanager baseball team fell to the West Central Trojans April 17 in a game played at Prentis Park in Vermillion.
The weather was ideal except for a gusting wind which confused the outfielders and led to a couple wind-aided hits early in the game.
Jason Donald started but after giving up 5 hits and 6 runs (and an infield error) was lifted while being credited with one out. He was relieved by Sam Laprath who went 1 2/3 innings allowing 1 hit, 2 runs, and 4 walks while registering 3 strikeouts.
BJ Campbell pitched the final 5 innings giving up 3 runs on 4 hits and registering 6 Ks.
The team's offense accumulated 6 runs but that only matched the Trojan's first inning outburst and was not enough to overcome the 11 run total for the visitors.
Line scores: Vermillion 6 runs, 6 hits, 5 errors, 9 lob; Trojans 11 runs, 10 hits, 5 errors, 8 lob.
Tanager offensive stats: Ben Oberle 3 for 3 batting, 1 run, 1 rbi; BJ Campbell 1 for 2, 1 run; Kyle Mollet 1 for 3, 2 rbi; Sam Laprath 1 for 4, 1 run; Zach Weiss, Jordan Anderson, and Alan Bos each scored a run.
The varsity season record fell to 2-4.
