Vermillion girls capture third at Canton Invite

Vermillion girls capture third at Canton Invite by Jim Prosser The VHS girls' track team joined seven other schools and participated in the Canton Relays April 13.

Vermillion placed third behind Beresford and Lennox.

In the field events, the Tanagers' Anne Carlson placed third in the long jump, took first in the triple jump (33'5.75") and placed third in the high jump at a state meet qualifying height of 4'11".

Alicia Brown placed second in the 100M dash, and won the 200M dash with a time of 26.8 seconds.

Heather Heine won the 400M with a time of 1:04.04. Katarina Gombocz placed second in the 1600M run.

The 4x100M relay team of Nicki Nelson, Carlson, Annie Roche, and Brown placed third.

First place was claimed by the 4x200M relay team of Nelson, Heine, Roche, and Brown; the team of Brittney Babb, Brittney Gilkyson, Morgan Brooks, and Heine placed third in the 4x400M; the 4x800M relay was won in 10:23.57 by Brooks, Gilkyson, Gombocz, and Emily Renner.

The medley relay team of Ariel Hofman, Alexa Walker, Babb, and Renner finished in second place.

The Tanager girls' team scored 101 points to earn third place in the meet.
