Vermillion police announce promotion The Vermillion Police Department has announced the promotion of Chad Passick to the rank of captain. The promotion fills a vacancy left by last year's retirement of Deputy Chief Kim Callahan.
As the new captain, Passick will be second in command of the police department. His primary responsibility will be the oversight of the patrol function and assistant to the chief of police in the overall operation of the department.
Passick is a native of Vermillion and is currently a sergeant on the police department. His law enforcement experience includes serving as a Clay County Sheriff's Department jail officer, a dispatcher with the Clay Area Emergency Communications Center and a patrol officer with the Vermillion Police Department prior to his promotion to sergeant in 2002. Passick is a student at The University of South Dakota. He and his wife, Kirsten, have two children and reside in Vermillion.
A reception is planned for April 5 at 3 p.m., at the Public Safety Center in Vermillion to recognize Passick's promotion. The public is invited.
