Vermillion's young volunteers honored at luncheon Young volunteers in Vermillion were recently recognized at the second annual Youth Recognition Luncheon held on April 8 at Buffalo Run. Middle school and high school students were treated to a luncheon and received certificates to recognize their volunteer service in the community.
Over 80 students were commended for their volunteer efforts for groups such as DARE, the Healthy Kids/Healthy Communities Suicide Prevention program, the USD Head Start PLAY program, the Sioux Valley Care Center Teen Angel program, the Vermillion High School Natural Helpers program and the Incoming Freshman Mentoring program, the Vermillion Public Library Mother Goose program and volunteering at The Welcome Table.
Mayor Roger Kozak welcomed the group and remarks were given by Colette Abbott. Adults representing the various organizations presented the certificates to the volunteers to conclude the luncheon.
The recognition luncheon was implemented last year as a way to formally thank students for their efforts and show them that they are an important and valued part of our community.
