VMS boys compete in Beresford Quadrangular by Jim Prosser A quadranguler track meet involving Akron/Westfield, Beresford, Elk Point/Jefferson, and Vermillion Middle School was held Thursday, April 15 at the Beresford HS track. No final team points were computed.
The placers for the VMS eighth-grade boys were: Shot put � Luke Heine, first (35.5'), Thomas Mollet, third; discus � Mollet (second), Ryan Husby (third).
In the dashes: 200m � Cody Miller (first) :26.8; 400m � Heine (second) and Jarelle His Law (fourth).
Casey Carlson was first in the 1600m run (5:46).
The 4×100 relay placed third with members Alex Anderson Kahl, Eric Bingen, Ryan Husby, and Miller, and the 4x400m relay team came in second (Josh Johnson, Carlson, His Law, and Heine)
VMS seventh-grade placers were:
Field events: Long jump � Marley Hammond (second), Mike Oberle (third), Corey Taggart (fifth); high jump � Tony Thomas (second), Joey Brewer (fifth); Shot Put � Kyle Nemec (first) 29'4", Greg Anderson (second), Blaine Olson (third); Discus � Joe Ensminger (first) 87.6', Nemec (second), Travis Jerred (fifth).
The 110m hurdles had Oberle wining with a 20.62 sec. time.
In the dashes: 100m � Greg Anderson (second), Hammond (fourth), and Tyler Steele (fifth); 200m � Steele (first) 28.65, Oberle (third), Anderson (fourth), and Thomas (fifth); 400m � Brewer (second).
Distance runs: 800M � C. Taggart (second); 1600m � Brewer (first), 5:43.3, Oberle (third), Anderson (fourth), and Tony Thomas (fifth).
The 4x200m relay team claimed first place, 1:57 (Steele, Thomas, Oberle, and Anderson).
The foursome of Ensminger, Dendinger, Tyler Vlasman, and Hammond placed fourth in the 4x100m relay; and the 4x400m relay team had a third place finish (Brewer, J.R.Moore, D.J. Donahoe, and Marley).
