VMS hosts boys’ quadrangular track meet

VMS hosts boys' quadrangular track meet by Jim Prosser The seventh/eighth Quadrangular Track meet involving Beresford, Harrisburg, Lennox, and Vermillion was held Thursday, April 22 at the VHS track. Several Redbirds placed highly in both grades. Final team standings were not computed:

The VMS placers for the seventh-grade boys were:

High jump � Tony Thomas (first) 4'8".

In the long jump � Marley Hammond (fifth), 14'5"; shot put � Kyle Nemec (first) 30'11", Gregg Anderson (second), Blain Olson (third); discus � Jo Ensminger (first) 84', Olson (fourth).

The 110m hurdles was won by Michael Oberle � 19.9 sec., and Ensminger third.

In the dashes: 100m � Anderson, Tyler Steele, Hammond, and Thomas finished second, third, fourth and fifth in that order; 200m � Steele (first) 29.09,Oberle (second), Ensminger (fourth), and Michael Dending (fifth); 400m � Joey Brewer (third).

Distance runs: 800m � J.R. Moore (4th); 1600m � Brewer (second).

The 4×100 relay team placed second ( Steele, Thomas, Anderson, and Hammond); the 4×200 relay team placed third (Steele, Thomas, Oberle, and Anderson); the 4x400m relay team was fourth (Brewer, J.R. Moore, Hammond, and D.J. Donahoe).

VMS eighth-grade placers were:

Field events: Shot put � Luke Heine (second), Tom Mollet (third), Ryan Husby (sixth); discus � Mollet won with a 108'7" toss; Husby (second); long jump � Cody Miller (third), and Josh Johnson (sixth); high jump � Alex Kahl (sixth).

In the 110m hurdles Erik Bingen was second with Johnson and Jesse Kirkpatrick in fifth and sixth respectively.

In the dashes: 100m � Miller (first) 13.03, Matt Nelson (second), Bingen (sixth ); 200m � Miller (first), 27 seconds flat, Johnson (sixth); 400m � Jarelle His Law (fourth). Distance runs: 1600m: Casey Carlson (second).

The 4x100m relay team placed second (Husby, Bingen , Kahl, and Miller); the 4x200m relay team was second (same runners as 4x100m); The 4x400m team placed third (Johnson, Carlson, His Law, and Heine).
