Wakonda community to aid Trudy Book family The Wakonda Community has risen to the aid of a long time Wakonda family. The Trudy Orr Book family has suffered great hardship since the unfortunate death of husband and father Edd Book.
The community has planned a benefit event for the Book family including a meal, an auction, and a dance. Everyone is asked to contribute something for the auction which can include cash, food, hand-made items, agricultural products and services, new or used toys, vehicles or anything useable that you would be willing to donate.
June 12 is the date with serving time for the pork loin meal to begin at 5 p.m. and the auction to begin at 7 p.m. with the dance to follow.
Trudy was born and raised on a farm south of Wakonda. Her family has operated the Orr Feed and Farm store since the early 1970s. Edd came to the community after his sister Ruth Book Williams married and settled on a farm near Wakonda. Edd and Trudy have four children.
Jason, the oldest, is married to Susan Andal and their son is Kaelen Book. Jason is in the military. Brad and his wife, Delila, and their children Braxton and Bentley live in Wakonda. Debra will be a junior at USD and the youngest Megan is just finishing the seventh grade at Wakonda.
Trudy taught school in Onida and Viborg, and they both taught at Bonesteel, Murdo and DeSmet before returning to Wakonda where Trudy has taught art and English for several years. Currently she teaches half time in Irene and half time in Wakonda. In recent years Edd had been operating his own construction business.
In addition to everything that has happened, Trudy has health issues which she must deal with over the coming years. She has been very fortunate to have wonderful family support from her brothers and sisters as well as her children.
