Beresford Watchdogs outlast Tanagers 11-9 in baseball by Jim Prosser The Tanager varsity played Beresford in a return game on Wednesday, May 5 at Prentis Park in Vermillion. The weather was ideal (negligible wind, temp in the 90s).
It looked as though the home team might have a win streak in the offing as they racked up seven runs in the first inning against Beresford's Tom Keiser. But unfortunately, a somewhat leaky defense let the Watchdogs back into the game as they added five runs in the fourth inning to compliment the three runs they scored in the first and made the score 8-7 for Beresford.
A one-run recounter tied the score. The final three innings brought a 3-1 Watchdog advantage and an 11-9 win for the visitors.
Kyle Mollet was the starter, allowing eight runs (one unearned), eight hits and two walks, while registering eight Ks. Jason Donald pitched the rest of the way and was charged with the loss, giving up three runs (two earned), five hits and two Ks.
