Boys and girls compete in Region 4A track meet by Jim Prosser The Region 4A track and field meet was held in North Sioux City at Dakota Valley last Thursday, May 20 with Lennox winning the boys' section and Beresford taking the top honor for the girls' section.
Besides Lennox and Beresford, six other teams were represented � Alcester-Hudson, Canton, Dakota Valley, Elk Point-Jefferson, Parker and Vermillion.
The fourth place Tanager boys had the following results:
Field events: Shot put � Donny Stewart, Kellen Cusick, and Jordan Anderson finished third, fourth, and ninth in that order; high jump � Bobby Dykstra (sixth); Chris Teigen was fourth in the 300m hurdles.
In the dashes; 100m � B.J. Campbell (fourth); 200m � Janeck Pannietz (eighth); 200m � Ben Oberle (third); 400m � Tyler Brown (first) tie 52.5 sec., and Maxwell Swanson (seventh).
Distance runs: 800m � Mitch Beirle (sixth); 1600m � Justin Manning (second); 3200m � Andrew Manning (fifth).
Relays: 4x100m � fourth (Campbell, Cusick, Swanson, and Chad Teigen); 4x200m � first � 1:32.6 (Campbell, Chad Tiegen, Tyler Brown, and Oberle); 4x400m � first � 3:31.6 (Brown, Tiegen, Tiegen, and Oberle). Sprint medley � first � 3:47 (Campbell, Cusick, Teigen, and Justin Manning). The boys finished with 92.5 points.
The seventh place girls results were:
Dashes: 100m � Ariel Hofman (seventh); 400m � Brittney Gilkyson (ninth); Weydert was eighth in the 300m hurdles.
Distance runs: 800m � Theresa Ring (eighth); 1600m � Katarina Gombocz (third); 3200m � Emily Renner (second).
Field events: Annie Carlson was second in the high jump, third in the long jump, and won the triple jump (35'10,5"); shot put � Jacque Smidt (eighth).
Relays: 4×100 � third (Nicki Nelson, Carlson, Weydert, and Hofman); 4x400m � sixth (Alexa Walker, Morgan Brooks, Annie Roche, and Britany Babb); sprint medley � second (Nelson, Roche,Walker, and Brooks). The girls scored 60 points.
The Tanager girls competing in individual events at the state meet are: Alicia Brown, Anne Carlson, Katarina Gombocz, and Emily Renner. In addition, three girls' relay teams have qualified for state.
Individual boys: Tyler Brown, B.J. Campbell, Justin Manning, and Ben Oberle. In addition, four relay teams have qualified.
